Dean and Chief Administrative Officer for the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences

New Mexico State University (NMSU) is seeking a Dean and Chief Administrative Officer for its College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES). The Dean of ACES will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer for ACES, reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost. The ACES Dean will be expected to advance the vision of ACES in support of the University’s strategic plans; provide strong leadership for growth and development of research, instruction, Cooperative Extension Service, and international programs; promote an inclusive environment that recognizes and celebrates diversity; develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external constituencies, including stakeholders, commodity and trade groups; as well as state and Congressional legislators, and government agencies. A successful candidate will be expected to foster a climate for organizational function and leadership that encourages all members of ACES and the University to successfully contribute to this mission.

Qualifications:

Required: Applicants must:

1. Hold a terminal degree in a discipline related to those housed in ACES
2. Have achieved earned academic rank, and have a distinguished record commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Professor at New Mexico State University
3. Have a minimum of three years of administrative leadership.

• Willingness to serve as a strong advocate for the College by interacting positively with stakeholders, state and Congressional legislators, government agencies, and other constituent groups,
• Building, encouraging, and enhancing interdisciplinary, multi-agency, and multi-national collaboration, including fostering relationships with government agencies and industries with particular emphasis on increasing extramural funding of teaching and research programs,
• Leadership in strategic planning, academic program review, and assessment of student learning outcomes, and program or regional accreditation processes,
• Attraction, retention, and advancement of a diverse and superior faculty, student body, and staff as demonstrated by administrative leadership, persistent effort, active planning and allocation of resources,
• Outstanding leadership with excellent oral and written communication skills,
• A management style that promotes an inclusive, collaborative and shared governance approach that will encourage a culture of excellence and continuous quality improvement,
• Thorough understanding of financial issues facing a multi-disciplinary, multi-constituent college at a land-grant institution,
• Identifying and establishing new revenue streams and resources to advance the vision and priorities of the College in support of the strategic plans of the university
