Women’s Ranch Rodeo Finals Coming to Amarillo

AMARILLO, TX September 1, 2011 — Looking for something a little western to do Oct. 14 and 15? Then a seat in the Amarillo National Center is just the ticket. The Women’s Ranch Rodeo Association will be holding their World Finals in Amarillo, TX.

The WRRA, formed in 2005, features women only teams competing in a series of ranch rodeos throughout the year, culminating in a world finals each October. Between eight and 12 teams compete in five events at each rodeo. Each team has four contestants and their trusty steed. The events include sorting, trailer loading, doctoring, tie down/mugging and simulated branding.

“We are so appreciative to the Coors Cowboy Club for providing us the opportunity to bring our World Finals to Amarillo and the Amarillo National Center,” said Edy Jost, President of the WRRA. “We look forward to bringing our families and this competition to town.”  The WRRA World Finals will be held in Amarillo for five years according to Chris Reed of the Coors Cowboy Club.

Reed noted that the agreement creates a unique opportunity for rodeo fans in Amarillo and the surrounding area to learn about and enjoy an important type of ranch rodeo competition. “The women who compete in the WRRA are skilled cowgirls. Many of them live on working ranches compete in other ranch rodeos and roping events throughout the year. Those attending the World Finals will certainly find the level of competition and the excitement of the event to their liking,” he said.

Tickets for Friday or Saturday are $12 each and include the 1pm rodeo performance, Chamber “After Hours” (Friday, 5:30pm), BBQ Sandwich (Saturday, 5:30pm), the 7pm rodeo and a dance. There will also be shopping at the Cowboy Christmas where vendors will have an assortment of Christmas gift ideas.
